If you have asked yourself, “Am I living the life I want to be living?” how would you answer it? What kind of feelings would be evoked within you? Have you ever taken a moment to even think about what your passions and desires are? There are also a handful of people who don’t believe they have any passions in life at all!
Whether we’d like to realize it or not, most of us have never taken the time to sit down and reflect on the bigger picture of our lives. While you can continue to go about your life just looking one step ahead, when you take the time to really outline your deepest hopes and dreams, that’s when you’ll develop your purpose.
Sparking this internal drive will not only give you a sense of direction, it will also allow you to create an attainable roadmap that you can follow. Once you have a clear sense of direction, that is when you will be more comfortable, confident, and determined on the type of life you want to live. From there, learning how to reach your goals can be obtainable.
While this might all sound great in theory, you might find the execution part to be the biggest challenge. Maybe you have already sat down and tried to outline your goals, only to be overwhelmed just by the sheer thought of the task at hand. After just a single discouraging attempt, you may have decided to put it on the backburner until further notice.
Even if you have already outlined your passions, it can be hard to know what to do with them. Maybe you’ve already created a vision board with all the places you want to travel to or the kind of lifestyle you want to be living and you just don’t know how to actually achieve it.
If this sounds like you, you may be experiencing a number of deterrents that are derailing your goals. In this article, I’m going to outline some of the most common pitfalls that prevent people from finding their true passion in life.
4 Common Mistakes That Are Holding You Back From Finding Your True Passion
Do you find it difficult to know how to find your passion and reach your goals in life? Whether you have tried or not, knowing the common mistakes that are often made can help you avoid challenges so you can start living the life you want to be living. Below are some of the most common pitfalls to look out for.
1. Waiting For the Perfect Moment
We’ve all been there: I’m going to start school when I have more time. I’m going to go on that solo travel adventure when I have more money. I’m going to open that business once I work a few more years.
It is so easy to find excuses. This just gives us more time before we have to face reality and get out of our comfort zone. While we can wait and wait for that “perfect day” to come, I’m here to tell you that this waiting game is never going to get you to where you want to be.
If you want to learn how to find your true passion in life and start reaching new goals, you have to be willing to make that internal change. You can create that perfect moment by knowing exactly what you want, knowing when you want to achieve it, and creating a plan on how you’re going to get there.
If fear is what’s holding you back, you are never going to achieve your goals unless you take on your challenges head on. Remember, it’s okay to start small. By setting achievable goals and working towards them, you’ll be able to make significant progress while also creating a mindset of determination.
2. Accepting Failure Before You Begin
There are so many individuals who never take that first step because they are too scared they are going to fail. This fear can be paralyzing and prevent you from ever reaching your fullest potential. Having a negative mindset will not only derail you from reaching your passions and goals, but it will also prevent you from even starting in the first place.
Here’s the thing: You have no idea if you are going to succeed or fail. But there is one thing for certain, If you never try, you have no way of ever succeeding. By setting goals and working towards them, you at least have the chance to prevail and reach your dream life.
3. Listening to Your Inner Critic
One of the biggest goal setting mistakes is listening to that inner critic. “You’re not good enough, smart enough, you didn’t study the right degree…” The internal criticism can turn into a continuous, vicious cycle. The second you let your inner critic influence your thoughts and feelings, that is when you will feel completely discouraged to go against your negative internal dialogue.
While it can be difficult to silence that inner critic completely, it’s essential you learn how to manage and alter that negative self talk. Acknowledge the inner critic and take a moment to really question its validity. Once you break it down, you’ll realize that there is no truth or proof behind these negative internal assumptions.
4. Feeling Judgement By Others
The fear of what other people think of you can be crippling. If you are worried about judgement from others, you are already not living your own true life. By allowing your peers to influence your life, you are adapting your goals and prohibiting yourself from reaching your fullest potential.
How you can limit this hurdle is by reflecting from within. What do YOU want out of life? What kind of people are going to help you reach your goals? If you are surrounded by judgemental, close-minded individuals, you are only going to be hindered from reaching your greatest potential.
Seek out individuals that have an open mindset. By surrounding yourself with positive and inspiring people, you will have more motivation and freedom to reach for your goals.
How to Find Your Passion In Life
Okay, you have finally come to the realization of what has been holding you back and you’re ready to change. Now what?
If you’re here to discover your passions, reach your goals, and change your life for the better, taking a Passion Test may be the best place to start.
This passion test allows you to uncover your true calling and encourages you to go in the right direction. This series of questions helps you identify what brings you the most joy and happiness in life while providing clarity to your deepest desires. Knowing your passions and having a clear vision of the future you want to create for yourself gives you the energy you need to overcome the worst challenges in life, even cancer.
As a cancer coach, I advise all of my clients to take a Passion Test. Once you are able to identify your true passion, you can then work towards achieving your dream life filled with love and happiness. In my opinion, when you live a passionate life, you gain energy and an inner joy that supports your immune system in a completely different way. Once your immune system and mental health are all aligned, your body can then face all viruses and bacteria while helping to eliminate any defective cells that may turn into cancer. That is why I firmly believe that living a passionate life protects us from cancer and other diseases.
